With the rapid development of the Brazilian iGaming market, any relevant insight about players behavior and gambling tendencies are extremely valuable to operators. Last year market leader KTO published several studies about the Brazilian online gambling environment as a whole, offering deeper insight about the theme.
Now ENV Media has commissioned a primary data survey for a deeper understanding of the Brazilian real money gaming market. The survey was carried out in mid-2023 with respondents being Brazilian adults in some of the most active gaming communities. Their team has gathered opinions and tastes related to Brazilian gaming habits, as well as player perceptions of the iGaming scene in general.
In this article we’ll do a deep dive into these discoveries and find out more about the motivations that drive real money players in Brazil. With the continued growth of Brazilian iGaming marketing, it is important to have a deeper understanding of the Brazilian gambler profile.
Player Motivation and Market Factors
Naturally, the availability of disposable income is the leading trigger factor (48%) for those who enjoy playing real-money games according to the ENV Media survey. The thrill and excitement of the games is the second most common (40%) influencing factor – that would possibly be the first, if budget was not an issue.
Close behind is also the quality of (online) games, for 31% of people. Both the excitement and quality factor is backed up by study into game preferences by KTO among its players. In the top list of games, especially among slots, titles from market leading studios with both bigger budgets in game creation and experience of creating exciting games prevailed as the most played.
The fourth most relevant factor is recommendations by friends or relatives (25%) followed by the regulation of the market (24%). This point specifically reinforces the importance of the imminent iGaming sector regulation.
As the Brazilian online gaming industry grows and has lots of opportunities to capitalize in a relatively new market, Brazil is hemorrhaging money for lack of regulation. The iGaming market shows immense potential and growth is steady, but the discussions in congress haven’t developed much in 2023, contrary to what last year’s expectations indicated.
Interestingly enough, the availability and accessibility of games, any marketing efforts, and even the perceived industry fairness have a more limited impact on players’ decisions – around or less than 1 in 5 players said those aspects influence them at all.
Other studies have shown that motivated players will find sports events to place a bet every day. This simply means that the majority of real-money gamers would find an outlet and play regardless of accessibility or commercial practices. And this is more than a clear signal to authorities and iGaming stakeholders that they should work towards a fully regulated and transparent market – maximizing public benefits and delivering efficient player protection above all.
Frequency and Duration of Online Gaming
When considering online real-money games only, respondents were asked “how often” they play. We see that most players approach iGaming casually and responsibly.
The frequency of playing online largely confirms the recreational nature of iGaming, which is quite satisfactory for all stakeholders. Most people play occasionally throughout the year or about once a month – combining for 61%. Only 23% play 2 or more times a week, and 8% do it daily.
Similar disposition is also seen in the total duration of online gaming sessions, estimated on a weekly basis. Most people spend less than 30 minutes per week (42%) or at most under an hour (58%).Player shares rapidly decrease when weekly duration rises, with little over 2% spending more than an hour a day.
Profile of Brazilian Real-Money Gamers
Naturally, the survey was also meant to get a consolidated and precise picture of the players – who they are and what describes the typical real-money gamer from Brazil.
These findings offer valuable insights into the thoughts and actions of Brazilian real-money gamers, emphasizing the importance of disposable income, the excitement of games, and the quality of online offerings. They also highlight the recreational nature of iGaming for the majority of players, with casual and responsible playing patterns prevailing.
The results of this survey provide a comprehensive understanding of the gaming landscape in 2023. Showing that the country
